Putting credentials technology in the hands of all Australians

The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) and Higher Ed Services (HES) will collaborate with the Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment to deliver a National Credentials Platform (NCP) by December 2021.

The NCP will enable learners to compile and share their qualifications, knowledge and abilities to help them secure a job, seek a promotion, or undertake further study.

The NCP will leverage the latest credentials technology known as Verifiable Credentials, which allows individuals to control their credentials in a single digital interface. Using an app on a smart phone or other device, you can store, share and manage all your qualifications and accomplishments in one place.

The development of the NCP is timely, following the Shergold Report into Senior Secondary Pathways, which emphasised the need for the full breadth of students’ skills and capabilities to be captured as they transition from school to work, and further education and training.

The NCP will make that possible.

UAC Managing Director David Christie and HES CEO Andrew Trnacek said the NCP will offer critical support to learners as they increasingly engage in lifelong learning:

“We thank the government for providing HES and UAC with the opportunity to deliver the NCP and we look forward to working with all learners, education providers, the workforce community and other stakeholders on this exciting initiative.”

Stakeholder consultation and planning has now begun, with involvement from key representatives of the higher education sector. The first stage of the project will be the development of a pilot involving selected pilot partners drawn from different stakeholder groups.
