A helping hand getting into uni

STUDENTS dealing with financial hardship, a medical condition or difficult personal circumstances that have negatively impacted their education during Year 11 and/or Year 12 have a helping hand through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

UAC’s Educational Access Scheme (EAS) helps students who have experienced disadvantage gain entry into university.

There are many types of disadvantages faced by students that will be considered through EAS. These include financial hardship, personal illness or disability, or being impacted by natural disasters such as floods and severe storms. All details are set out on the UAC website.

UAC is running an online session on Wednesday 24 May to help students, parents and teachers navigate the EAS application process: Let’s Chat – Applying for the Educational Access Scheme.

UAC also has other schemes to help students access higher education.

The Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) is one way institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission to Year 12 students using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR.

An online session to help students apply for SRS, Let’s Chat – Applying to the Schools Recommendation Scheme, is running on Wednesday 17 May.

Equity Scholarships offer financial assistance to students from low socio-economic backgrounds. In 2022, institutions made 680 Equity Scholarship offers to applicants via UAC.

Students and parents can join UAC live on Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday 21 June to ask UAC’s Access Coordinator, Adam Hennessy, all about these programs.
