Favourite uni courses in 2018

THE majority of Year 12 students have received their offers to uni and the stats are in - Health, Law and Business were the most favoured fields of study.

Data released today by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) indicates a strong preference among applicants for health degrees, with the Bachelor of Medicine at UNSW topping the list at 1,322 unique first preferences. Two other medicine degrees and a nursing degree also made the top 10 list.

The Bachelor of Combined Law at the University of Sydney took out second place with 1,098 first preferences and the Bachelor of Business at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) came in third with 959.

Charlie Blomfield is one of 1,013 applicants offered a place in the Bachelor of Business at UTS. Mr Blomfield was drawn to the popular business course for its graduate outcomes. ‘There are a variety of career options available after uni.’ Mr Blomfield said, ‘At the moment I’m interested in marketing, but I’m also keen to make a positive social impact.’

Perennial favourite Bachelor of Arts also featured in the top 10 list, with the Australian National University, the University of Sydney and Macquarie University receiving a combined 1,999 first preferences to their BA courses.

UAC strongly recommends that applicants accept offers they are made now so they don’t miss out on the opportunity to study in first semester this year as courses are filling up fast.

Potential students can apply still through UAC for study in first semester until midnight next Monday 5 February 2018, and UAC encourages applicants to check directly with the institution they’re interested in to see if they still have vacancies and are making offers in the February offer rounds.
